Motor vehicle accidents may lead to death, injury

On Behalf of | May 10, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Two teenage girls’ lives were recently snuffed out in a tragic collision in Texas. Several other individuals were also injured in the collision. These types of motor vehicle accidents can easily occur if a driver is careless behind the wheel, in which case he or she may be held liable for any injuries or deaths resulting from the accident.

The recent accident took place on a Saturday. Police said a 61-year-old man was driving a pickup truck and suddenly collided with a car at a street intersection. The man then reportedly fled the crash scene but was later apprehended and taken into custody.

Two teenage girls in the car that was struck, ages 16 and 18, ended up dying in the collision. Three other people in the car — the two girls’ father, their other sister and a friend — suffered injuries in the crash and were taken to the hospital. The man who was arrested faces charges of causing an accident leading to death (two counts) and causing a crash leading to injury (three counts).

The surviving loved ones of the teenage girls who died in the crash may choose to file wrongful death claims against the man, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages. Likewise, the injured parties may choose to file personal injury claims against him. If the man is convicted on his charges, proof of a conviction could be presented in civil court with the goal of establishing liability. Only if liability is established will monetary damage claims be adjudicated. A successfully fought case in Texas may result in damages that may help with covering funeral costs, hospital expenses and other losses associated with these types of motor vehicle accidents.
