Running red lights may lead to fatal motor vehicle accidents

On Behalf of | Dec 30, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

A recent car crash in Texas has sadly claimed two lives. Now, two families are left to grieve and wonder how such a tragedy could strike them around the holidays. Sometimes, these types of motor vehicle accidents happen as a result of the carelessness of a driver, which is grounds for litigation.

The recent accident took place at about 11 p.m. on a Saturday. According to authorities, a car sped through a red light at a street intersection. The car then hit a second motor vehicle.

A 19-year-old woman who was riding in the second car suffered critical injuries in the wreck and was taken to a medical center. However, she ended up passing away at the hospital. In addition, the 21-year-old man who was driving the second car passed away at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the three individuals who were in the car that reportedly ran the red light received minor injuries.

The surviving loved ones of the two individuals who died in the Texas crash may decide to file wrongful death claims against the driver who allegedly caused the accident by running the red light. Liability must be established before the civil court hearing the claim, before any claims for financial damages will be adjudicated. In a claim that is fought successfully, the plaintiffs may receive judicial awards of monetary damages, which might help to cover funeral costs and other expenses tied to these types of motor vehicle accidents. The damages may also help with addressing emotional distress caused by the car wreck.
