Doctors accused of medical malpractice following man's stroke

A married couple in another state recently decided to sue a hospital after the hospital reportedly failed to treat a stroke that the husband had suffered. According to the couple, the hospital's medical malpractice caused harm to the husband and also negatively impacted the wife. In the same manner, anyone in Texas who suffers harm due to a medical provider's neglect has the right to seek justice in civil court.

In the recent out-of-state case, the couple claimed that doctors at the hospital did not diagnose the husband with stroke after medical service personnel discovered him acting abnormally in his motor vehicle. Specifically, although the man's glucose levels appeared to be normal, he could not talk. After the man was taken to the hospital, he allegedly did not receive appropriate care for his medical condition.

According to the couple's lawsuit, the doctors' failure to treat the husband's stroke ended up hurting both parties financially and emotionally. For instance, the wife lost income as a result of having to take care of her husband. In addition, she is seeking damages for the loss of consortium, as her husband's medical situation has put a strain on their relationship. The couple are now suing for an undetermined amount in damages. This amount is expected to be decided at trial.

Sometimes, medical providers fail to exercise a reasonable degree of care when diagnosing and caring for patients. Unfortunately, this can have negative impacts on patients. Fortunately, though, patients in this situation in Texas have the right to seek compensation for the harm sustained as a result of medical malpractice. An understanding of what facts need to be proved will likely be necessary to prevail in such a case.
