Man files medical malpractice claim after wire found in his body

On Behalf of | Jun 20, 2019 | Medical Malpractice |

A man in another state recently claimed that a surgeon had left a wire inside of him 15 years ago. He has thus filed a lawsuit against the surgeon, who is now on trial. Any patient in Texas who is harmed due to a doctor’s error has the right to seek compensation through a medical malpractice claim.

In the recent out-of-state case, the 70-year-old man claimed that the surgeon who left a wire inside of him was doing an angioplasty at a heart center at the time. Ten years later, an X-ray revealed that the wire stretched from the man’s aorta to a thigh. The man asserted that doctors did manage to remove most of this wire during a surgery in 2018. However, 20 inches of it reportedly remains near the man’s thigh.

In his lawsuit, the man alleged that the surgeon who made the error was professionally negligent and caused him emotional distress. He also alleges negligent hiring and supervision as well as the loss of consortium as a result of the reported medical malpractice. The surgeon’s attorney, however, asserted that the wire had to be inserted into the man for the purpose of guiding a catheter. The attorney said the wire should have been taken out when the catheter was removed, but the surgeon was never told that the wire was missing.

Unfortunately, sometimes, medical professionals are not careful when diagnosing or treating patients, and this can cause patients long-term physical and emotional problems. Fortunately, patients in Texas who have experienced medical malpractice have the right to seek damages through the civil court system. No amount of money can undo the events leading to a malpractice incident, but it can help the patient to experience a sense of justice after being harmed in such an incident.
