Motor vehicle accidents claim 5 lives, cause 7 injuries

Five people's lives have suddenly been snuffed out as a result of two car crashes that happened in the span of a little more than two hours in Texas. In addition, seven individuals have suffered injuries in these motor vehicle accidents. The car collisions that caused these deaths and injuries occurred on a recent Sunday night and early Monday morning.

According to authorities, two men passed away and three individuals suffered injuries in one crash that happened at a little past 9 p.m. One of the injured parties was a woman, who suffered critical injuries and was taken to a medical center by helicopter. Meanwhile, another woman suffered possibly serious injuries and was driven to a medical center. In addition, a child with possibly serious injuries was taken to a children's hospital.

Family law: Divorce may stem from poor expectations

Reportedly, almost half of all divorces happened because the expectations of one or both parties were not met. However, these expectations can often be unrealistic. Here is a look at what types of unrealistic expectations often lead to family law proceedings in Texas and elsewhere.

Expectations in marriage are generally based on personal experiences, hopes or understanding. In other words, they are based on an individual's understanding of the workings of the world.  However, although some people's expectations are based on facts, others can be founded on misunderstandings, erroneous decisions or imperfect societal norms.

Swift treatment for a heart attack is cricital

A person who goes into the hospital with chest pains needs to undergo a medical evaluation immediately to find out if there is something that needs addressing. Chest pains could signal a heart attack, which might be fatal if treatment doesn't happen quickly. Unfortunately, doctors don't always pick up on the signs of a heart attack, and they might not diagnose the patient so they can receive proper treatment.

Anyone who goes into the emergency room with signs of a heart attack can expect to have some precise tests done. This is so that the doctors can determine what is going on and which treatment plan will be suitable.

Medical malpractice suit leads to $9M award

The family of a woman who died following an urgent care center visit in another state was recently awarded $9 million. The incident that led to the woman's death happened back in 2014. In the same way, if anyone in Texas loses a loved one due to medical malpractice, he or she has the right to seek justice through the civil court system.

In the out-of-state case, the woman who died due to malpractice passed away following several visits to the urgent care center. The attorney for the family asserted that the woman was in critical condition and thus should have been taken to the hospital via an ambulance. Instead, however, the urgent care staff sent the woman home with nothing more than an inhaler.

Motor vehicle accidents may stem from failure to slow down

A car wreck involving four cars recently caused six injuries in Texas. The collision took place on a Tuesday morning along U.S. Highway 35. Sometimes, these types of motor vehicle accidents occur as a result of a driver's carelessness -- for example, failure to drive according to traffic conditions -- in which case the reportedly at-fault driver may be held liable for any injuries resulting from the crash.

The recent collision took place shortly after 6:40 a.m. Police said that a motor vehicle was going north on the highway but failed to slow down. As a result, the car ran into the back of a second car that was trying to make a turn into a plant area. The impact of these two cars sent the second car into a third car. Meanwhile, the first car ended up striking a fourth car.

Personal injury: Symptoms that suggest brain trauma

Texas is a big state, and its residents -- like those throughout the country -- often live busy lives. This, in turn, creates stressful situations, such as traffic jams or job-related situations that are challenging for those involved. On the roadway, drivers are legally obligated to adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations. In the workplace, employers are obligated to do certain things to help their employees avoid personal injury.

If a vehicular collision or workplace accident occurs, injuries are not always immediately apparent. In fact, it is possible that an accident victim might feel "okay" just after the incident, then develop adverse symptoms hours, even days, later. This is why it is critical to closely observe someone who has been in a car accident or who has been involved in a workplace mishap. Traumatic brain injury often occurs without presenting immediately obvious symptoms.

Understand hypoxia and its effects

Hypoxia is a dangerous condition that occurs when there isn't enough oxygen being delivered to the cells in the body. Hypoxia can happen with or without normal blood flow.

There are five kinds of hypoxia including:

  • Hypoxic hypoxia
  • Anemic hypoxia
  • Stagnant hypoxia
  • Metabolic hypoxia
  • Histotoxic hypoxia

Motor vehicle accidents may lead to injuries, deaths

Two people have lost their lives in a tragic car wreck in Texas. Meanwhile, three other individuals suffered injuries in the motor vehicle crash. Sometimes, these types of motor vehicle accidents occur due to a driver's carelessness, which is grounds for civil litigation in the Lone Star State.

The recent accident took place at a street intersection at around 2:35 a.m. on a Sunday. One of the two people who died in the crash was 18 years old. The second deceased victim's identity and age were not immediately released following the crash.

Nearly $4M medical malpractice claim filed against surgeon

A surgeon in a different state has been blamed for a woman's botched operation. In fact, the woman is suing the surgeon for around $4 million due to his alleged medical malpractice. In the same way, a person in Texas who suffers harm at the hand of a negligent surgeon may seek to hold that surgeon accountable in civil court.

The woman in the out-of-state medical malpractice case asserted that a gastroenterologist essentially poisoned her with fluids from her own body. This allegedly happened when the surgeon cut her during her surgery. The way in which the doctor cut her reportedly caused bodily fluids to enter and cover her organs, resulting in health issues for her.

Family law proceeding of divorce can majorly impact those over 50

The process of getting divorced can understandably be devastating emotionally and financially. However, this family law process can especially be tough for those over the age of 50 in Texas and elsewhere. Unfortunately, the divorce rate for those over 50 is now double what it was back in 1990.

Research shows that divorce after 50, or gray divorce, can be hazardous to both a person's physical and emotional health. For example, people who get divorced later in life may experience depression and higher blood pressure compared with their married counterparts. Research has also shown that getting divorced can lead to weight gain long term.
